Initial declaration (08/12/2023) :

"The 2030 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games must be exemplary. Val d'Isère is a natural showcase for a virtuous mountain. We are asking for a genuine, targeted dialogue to be set up, including Val d'Isère, and for a consultation schedule to be proposed as soon as possible, covering the period up to November 2024. I am determined to work with all stakeholders to contribute to the organization of sustainable and emblematic Games for France."

This is the message conveyed by the Mayor of Val d'Isère following the announcement that Val d'Isère has been withdrawn as a site for the 2030 Winter Olympic Games.

The village, whose history is closely linked to that of ski racing, is reacting to assert its legitimacy, and intends to highlight its commitment and assets. The commune is defending the idea that it is in a position to contribute to the development of the Olympic Games:

  • Committed level environmental,
  • economically optimizedThis is because the necessary infrastructure is already in place.
  • and carry a double aura: that of history, through its sporting heritage and unique know-how; and that of a a virtuous mountain on a long journey A modern, concerned mountain community, committed on a daily basis to preserving the environment and building the mountains of tomorrow. Decarbonated mobility, for example, is already in place at commune level, free of charge for users, and all we're asking is to be able to work together to extend it to the whole valley.

The commune therefore proposes to host all the technical ski events, in order to tighten up the arrangements and meet the expectations of both the IOC and the event's various partners. She asked for details of the requests so that she could take a stand on the matter.
